Kevin Curnin
Kevin’s been drawing, photographing, and writing all his life. Stories, poems, essays, reflections, memoir, movie scenes, bits and pieces.
After teaching and journalism, his career took him to the law, where he kept writing. Memos, briefs, motions, appeals. Kevin founded and directed the Public Service Project at his former law firm. Under twenty years of his leadership, the PSP won dozens of city, state, and national awards, including twice winning the American Bar Association Pro Bono Publico Award. The PSP served thousands of families. Kevin has received lifetime achievement awards from Dartmouth College and Fordham Law School for his social justice work. He has sat on many boards and committees and devoted a big part of his practice to counseling nonprofits that provide crucial services to NYC’s poorest and most vulnerable communities.
An expert on small business legal disaster relief, Kevin has been recognized for his leadership in recovery efforts after 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, Superstorm Sandy, and the Covid 19 Pandemic. He has spoken at dozens of social justice conferences across the country on a wide range of topics, including anti-trafficking, housing, education, homeless youth, and the role of the law in both creating and fighting injustices.
Kevin and his family moved from New York to Maine almost twenty years ago to be closer to nature and slow things down. Every day, he’s grateful they did. He spends as much time as he can in the woods or on the water.
